THE AHAURA RACES.
The adjourned meeting of those interested in the forthcoming race meeting was held at M'Kenna's Hotel, at the Ahaura, on Thursday, 6th instant. Mr M'Kenna was called to the chair. An amendment which had been carried at the last meeting, to the effect that it was not advisable to form a Jockey Club, was rescinded, on the motion of Mr A. A. Boag, seconded by Mr Thos. Tarry. Mr W. J. Potts moved— "That a Club to be called the Grey Valley Jockey Club be formed, and that the qualification for membership be an auniul subscription of two guineas. The motion was seconded b}' Mr Alex. Whit;-. Mr DiiuiiY moved -an auur.vV.iio.Mt to the effect that it was not desirable to form a Jockey Club, but tiiat steps be at once taken to get up the race meeting. The amendment was seconded by Mr Tucker. After considerable discus3i m and some delay, the amendment was then put to the meeting and lost. The original motion was carried. The following gentlemen were nominated as members of a committee to make preliminary arrangements for the formation of the Club : — At the New Ahaura. — Messrs Pinkerton, John Hamilton (Gilmer), Dargan, Deare, Smith, M Kenna, Mulvery, Potts, Fraser, and Boag. The Upper Grey. — Messrs James F. Johnston, James M'Enroe, James O'Malley, Geo. Bannon, and Jas. Ferguson. Noble's. — Messrs S. M. Mackley and John Cunningham. Totara Flat. — David Donald, John Reid George Carter } Robert Alcorn, and Robert M'Neill. Napoleon. — Messrs Jame3 M'Laughlin, James M 'Henry, David Magee, Patrick O'Neill, and Jas. Mathews. Moonlight. — Messrs A. White, and Jas. Aitkin. Old Ahaura. — Messrs Murdock M'Phee and Ben. Gough. Nelson Creek. — Messrs Patrick Fitzgerald, John Stephens, and Michael Drennan. Half-Ounce Creek. — Mr William Lonargan. Camptown. — Messrs G. Muir and Wm. Campbell. Twelve-mile Landing. — Messrs George Bidgood, James Molloy, and John Watkins. Mr W. J. Potts consented to act as secretary to the committee pro. tern., and he was instructed to issue circulars to the members nominated on the committee, requesting their active co-operation until the Club was fairly started. It was arranged that a meeting of the committee would be held at Pinkerton's Hotel, on Thursday, the 13th inst., when stewards would be appointed to prepare a programme and make other arrangements for carrying out the meeting, which it is proposed to hold in the beginning of February, 2871. After a vote of thanks to the Chairman, the proceedings terminated.
