THE IRISH PATRIOTIC FUND.

(to the editor.) Sir, — Will you be kind enough. to give publicity to the following remarks concerning a letter published in the Grey River Argus of the 29th ult., headed "The Patriotic Fund," and signed by Michael Dowling and Thomas Colton, in which they say that we circulated a false report concerning the publication of our names in the Melbourne Advocate as subscribers to the said fund. In answer to such we must state that Messrs Dowling and Colton's accusation of us is not so bad as we deserved, as we accused them of keeping part of the money collected by them for the said I fund to themselves. Our authority for such a statement is Thomas Colton. His \ account of the transaction is as follows : — When asked by John Miley why he did not publish the subscription list in the Grey Rivjsr Arqtjs, he said it was too expensive, besides the money was sent to Melbourne, and that the list would be published in the Advocate. He also stated; "We kept only Ll each for the day we were collecting, and nothing for the day following as we stopped in the Grey .and got on the spree." We will now ask Messrs Dowling and Colton three questions, which we expect answered through the Grey River Argus as early as possible : 1. What the Ll each was kept for out of the collection, as Colton's mates state he neither put a wages man on or was charged anything for lost time. 2. Why they did not mention at the time of collecting this money for the Patriotic Fund that they wanted to collect Ll each for themselves, the only difference we see it would make they would have to carry about two subscription lists instead of o:iel 3. Who forced this Ll. on Colton, as he stated that it was forced on him or he would not have taken it ? We are, &c, John Miley. Thomas Dvxx. Patrick Kelly. South Bocicb, Oofc. 3rd.
