STEEL'S CREEK.

This place is looking up again,, and ifc is almost time it was. Ha wish, Harding and party have taken in a long tunnel, and a party of Welshmen have set in at the mouth of the creek. A share has been sold in their claim in the Creek for LSO. Opposite this gully, in a small opening in themain creek, there are two graves ; one of them is that of a poor fellow who was well known and respected in the district when he was alive. There is no fence round either of them, and the track to Paddy's Gully passes right over one of them. This is scandalous, and, indeed, the disgraceful condition of the burial grounds throughout the district does not reflect credit on the authorities. The cemetery at the Twelve-mile Lauding is a disgrace to any civilised community. There is something horribly suggestive in the manner in which some of the graves have been rooted up and disfigured by pigs or other animals, and one is driven to conjecture what has, or may become of the bodies which were buried there. While on this subject I take the liberty of respectfully drawing tho attention of the clergymen of different denominations, who occasionally honor the up-river/dis-tricts with a visit, to the fact thatihere is not a single spot of consecrated ground in the Grey Valley in which the dead can be decently interred.
