JOYCE CREEK.

Hugh and party have succeeded in striking the lost lead at the foot of this creek. As was expected, it took a slew to the north as it approached the main creek, and Hugh's party, who took their tunnel in from the main creek, with the expectation of intersecting it, have done so at 600 ft from the face of the terrace. This has been a long and expensive operation. The party have been nearly eight months at it, and they have been very unfortunate in meeting with 3erious obstacles. When they had the original tunnel in over 500 ft, an immense body of water was tapped, which rushed into the tunnel, driving men, trucks, and everything else out before it. The work had to be discontinued at the end of the tunnel, and a fresh drive was opened to skirt round the head of it ; the lead was at length reached at a place where the ground was more solid and safer to work in. The washdirt they are now breaking out will pay well, and as the ground is drained, it will be les? expense to work it. Samuel Cummins and party have, finished a tail-race nearly 800 ft long. They are working their ground from a shaft sunk in the bed of the creek. There are four other parties working here, and a party of Germans have just commenced a tunnel adjoining Hughes and party to catch the run as it comes down. Ellis and Watkins sauk a shaft on the terrace at the back of Hughes' claim, to assist that party to drain their ground; they are on gold themselves now.
