The following is the draft of the peti- 1 tion to be transmitted to the authorities at Nelson :— To the Honorable the Superintendent and members of the Provincial Council of the Province of Nelson. The'meniorial of the undersigned inhabitants of No Town and the surrounding districts humbly sheweth — That the welfare and prosperity of the above districts are spriously retarded by the *^v^impracticable state of the existing means of communication with the Twelve-mile and Grey Kiver. That the urgent necessities of the district requires the immediate construction of a track from the Twelve-mile Landing. That the revenue derived from the district which would be benefited by such track amounts at present to overLl2oo per annum, from publicans and business licenses alone. That the population for the last five years has averaged 500, and at present exceeds 1000 miners, and is still increasing. That during the last four years sums of money have at different times been voted by your honorable House for the construction of such roads, but have in no instance been expended. That the want of police protection is every day seriously felt by your memorialists. That the inconvenience of having to travel a distance of thirty miles for the least important document connected with the Warden's or Resident Magistrate's Court is in itself a hardship of great consequence. That, with regard to the above considerations, your memorialists humbly pray that you will be pleased to cause the immediate construction of a road, and the establishment of a Police Camp and Court House at No Town. And your memorialists, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
