A telegram has^ been received by the Governor from Lord GranvUle, in which" it is stated that the Commissioners have obtained the Imperial guarantee to a loan of £i;odo,poo: ■""*: '~~ 7, , June 2o. ■•-! ; William Fagg has been found guilty at ; Auckland of selling arms and ammunition to natives, and sentence deferred. At the Supreme Court to-day, % all the prisoners convicted at the last criminal sitting, were again brought up. Judge Johnstone said a doubt had been thrown on the legality of the proceedings at the late criminal sittings, owing to this being commenced on a court holiday, WhitMonday. He accordingly ordered the prisoners to be detained in gaol till the opinion of the Court of Appeal could.be taken on the point. • John D. Butt, sentenced to three months' imprisonment for embezzlement, was released on his own recognisances to appear on the |10th of July, to learn the decision of the Appeal Court. ■ j The Governor to-day, presented to Kemp, Morgan, and Ropata swords of honor sent out for that purpose by the Queen. They are very beautiful silver- 1 mounted weapons, and bear the following inscription :— " Given by Queen Victoria to for his unfailing loyalty and valor. May you live long, and wear it in health and honor." Fifty more Urewera Hau-haus have surrendered to Major Mair at Waihoa. These were the pioneer party, and the surrender of the whole tribe is expected — twenty of the men were armed. Two are known murderers. Christchtrch, June 20. A public meeting will shortly be held in Christchnrch, to discuss the division of the million loan just guaranteed by the Imperial Government.
