Mr Harrison has given notice ior the production of all correspondence relative to the construction of public works in Westla&d by deferred payments. Mr Fox; has given notice of . the Westland Waste Lands Bill and the Ballot Bill. • [w, C, TIMES.] ......... . June 16. In the House to-day Mr Carrington moved the Address in reply. Mr Rich seconded the Address, and, iv doing soj regretted the Speech did not contain a declaration of protective policy. Mr Stafford followed in a very moderate and brief speech; he abstained from criticising . the vice-regal speech, . and declared- his intention to abstain ; from raking up the wretched past, unless he was forced to do so. He said all energies and thought were now required to be directed to the great question of the future. .Mr John Hall made a short speech, and regretted that no question was made of the present depression of > agricultural interests" in the fiddle Island. He hoped attention would be directed to devising means for remedying it. . He . hinted at the protective tariff. ' Mr Fox, the Premier, replied, expressing great pleasure' at the moderate and con- . Biderate .tone, of Mr Stafford. He also, spoke of the deep obligation Government owed to Mr Ormbnd for his labors in bringing about peace on the East Coast.' He promised large liberaL measures for the promotion of cblphisation in all parts of the Colony. He also strongly condemned the conduct of the Home Government anent the removal of troops. Messrs Hall and Rich did the same, but expressed pleasure that they were gone. I The address passed without farther debate. , . The debate on the reply has not begun in the Council. . , A Bill to reduce the interprovincial postage has been introduced by the vernment. ....,_.
