(prom our own correspondents.) Christchuroh, May 4. The nomination of candidates to represent the city in the Provincial Council took place to-day. The following gentlemen were nominated : — Messrs H. W. Williams, A. Duncan, H. Sawtell, John Inglis, Mr B. Hart, and Mr J. G. Hawkes. The poll takes place on Friday. In the election for the Superin tendency, Mr Rolleston's majority over Mr Moorhouse is now 946. Wellington, May 4. The s.s. Taranaki sailed to-day for Port Chalmers. Last night a fire took place in Cuba street, when a dwelling-house belonging to a man nmaed Leigh was burned. It was insured in the New Zealand Company for LIOO, but was worth treble that amount. Nothing was saved, all the family being out at the time.
