JUSTICE VERSUS ARNOLD FERRY.

(To tho Editor of the Grey River -Argus ) Sir— Un justice to myself, I >beg to offer v few remarks; in reference to the late visit of the Nelson officials to the Grey District. Three years ago, thelQth of last Angust, I bought all the right and titje to a ferry across the Amojd, viz., one two-storey house, one punt working on wire rope, \f\\iah I have worked ever since, and <>»« whaleboat, fJr the sum of LI6D, and got a business license from the Twelve-Mile Warden. S >on after, the Nelson Government made a brjdje track ou the north side of the Grey, and diverted the traffic of the foray across the Ariv>ld, I applied to his Hou.or the Superintendent of Nelson for a free license and protection, as the punt did not pay one-thud, of the time expended in attending to it, and hs. promised me I should ha.ye it, I hal previously built a good horse bridge, 2v,f t. above ordinary water level, across tho Stillwater, for which I never charged any t<i 1. It remained during nine floods W lich ovqr-tupp )d it, one of which was lolt, abqve it, at which time I lost two horses ; and alfiou^'h I lost all I had, I still maintained the . ferry at a loss at all hours, and have crossed at midnight, and maintaind persoi.a.— three at ox\i Hole— Avhq had lost their track, I have built a new puut, the old one being decayed in the service of the. public, and two hew boats, sufficient for all purposes. I have applied to each succeeding Warden, from' Mr Kynnersley downwards., for a free license, according to Ins Ilonor th§ Superintendent of Nelson's, promise, Mr Greenfield thought proper to give the Nelson protection to a person that never had a boat on the Arnold until after the decision, he dating his right two years back. I am, &c t , Gresham CrßTis. Arnold Junction, April 4, 1870. [We hav«t been compelled considerably to shorten this letter, because the remainder of it displays a decided animus against IVfr Langdon, and because we. did not publish the statements alleged to have been made at Cobden, of which the writer complains. -tt'Ed. ]
