GREAT FIRE IN CHRISTOHURCH.
DAMAGE, £2,500. Christchurch, April 5. This morning, at 1.30 a.m., a serious fire occurred in Colombo street, by which the following places of business were totally destroyed : Browuell and Co., merchants. Hill and Co., grocers. Withey, butcher. The origin of the fire is unknown. Brownell and Co. were insured on the building and stock for L 90 0; Hill and Co.'s stock, L 30 0; and Withey's building, L3OO. The total damage done is estimated at not less than L 2,500. ■
