RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT.
Thursday, March 4 (Before W. H. Revell, Esq., R.M.) Threatning to Shoot.— Win. Maher was charged with threatning to shoot one Johu Hinnigan. John Hinnigan deposed that he was a miner working in Brown's Gully, Arnold, and knows the prisoner. He saw him there at work on February 21st. He had a dog lying on the batik about twelve yards distant from where he was working. He heard a shot fired, and afterwards saw prisoner with a gun. About two hours afterwards he found the dog lying behind the bank shot through the hearjt. The prisoner never, spoke to him at all about the dog. Heard that prisoner had threatened to shoot him. Cross-examined : I had three dogs. The hut was 200 yards away from the claim. The dog. was .a bull and mastiff; he was a good tempered dog. Was told it was the prisoner shot him. The prisoner had done friendly actions to him and his mates. Could not say whether prisoner was drunk or sober. The dog was not registered. Was not aware that people could shoot unregistered dogs. Pat . Hogan deposed that he was working iv Brown's Gully, and saw the prisoner with a, gun in his hand going to complainant's claim. I then saw the dog. I afterwards heard a shot firod. I heard the dog was killed, and Bpoke to -prisoner about it. He said he would shoot any man or dog who insulted him. Cross-examined: He was very drunk and could not walk steadily. When he was asked for his gnu he gave it up at once. Did not think HiDnigan was in danger. Pat Noonan deposed that he is a miner in Brown's Gully. Saw prisoner go towards complainant's claim on the day the dog was shot with a gun in his hand. Afterwards heard the report of a gun. Shortly after that I saw the dog dead. The prisoner went to my hut and chen to his own. The dog offered to bite him as he wentinto the hut. He was very drunk. He said he fired at the dog as it had often challenged him before. The guir was taken out of his hand without any resistance. He said he would shoot any man or dog who would insult him, but he did not mean it. After Mr Newton. had addressed the Bench on behalf of the prisoner, the Magistrate summed up, and bound over the prisoner to keep the peace for six months, himself In LlO, and.two sureties of L 5 each. , - Drunk and Disorderly. — Mary Ann Rice was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and fined 20s or 48 hours' imprisonment. A second charge for using obscene language was also preferred, for which she wa3 adjudged to, pay 40s, or four days' imprisonment. Unregistered. Dogs. -^- Mrs Lee was summoned for a breach of the Police Or^ dinance in having in her possession two unregistered dogs, and was fingd LI and CQjsts.,— Mrs Rowley was charged with the
