BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual weekly meeting of theßoxough Council was held last evening in the Town Hall. Present: J. Kilgour, Esq. (Mayor), in the chair ; Councillors Moore, Parkinson, Niohol, Strike, Wickes, and Coates. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Town Clerk stated that he had sent two telegrams to. the County Chairman with regard to the halance of the vote of the County Council, now overdue, but had received no answer. That morning the Mayor had telegraphed on the subject, and had received the following reply : — " Vote lapsed ; not sufficient funds remaining ; balance will be placed on new estimates, and be paid early after the same are passed. Telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary in re, mining in town reserve; no definite answer received as yet. — C. Hoos." Mr Moore moved — " That Messrs Harrison and Lalunan be communicated with, string that contracts have been let for works under the vote, and they be requested to endeavor to obtain payment of the amount now due without delay." Mr Strikej seconded the motion, which was carried, Mr Nichol moved — " That the County Chairman be communicated with, in reply to his telegram, and informed that the balance due is required at once, to meet payments due on contracts entered into under the said vote ; and further, that the promises of the County Chairman, that money would be paid before the end of the year, materially influenced the Council iv accepting the contracts entered into. Mr Moore seconded the motion, which was carried. The contractors for the supply of scrub wrote, asking a payment of LBO on account, but it appeared from the contract that they had agreed to receive payment when the money came to hand from the County Council. It was resolved to inform the contractors that in the present financial position of the Council they could not make the advance, but that they would be paid according to the certificate of the Town Surveyor, whenever the money came to hand. An application from the Blackball Coal Company for wharfage accommodation, was referred to the Public Works Committee. Au acknowledgment was read from the Colonial Secretary's Office of the re-elec-tion of Mr J. Kilgour, as Mayor of Greymouth. — Received. Mr Nichol, by leave, moved for a return of all works executed, and the cost of 4'he same, carried out in the different Ward 3 since the formation of the Borough, and all works now in progress. This was agreed to. The Council then adjourned.
