/CHALLENGE. 1, ROBERT HOWE, not feeling satisfied with my late defeat at the Greymouth Christmas Sports, hereby challenge to run any one on the West Coast, or any of the following gentlemen, viz., Wright, Rankin, or Shepherd, any distance from 100 to 440 yards, for any sum from £50 upwards*, six weeks after the signing of articles. Man and money to be found at the Canadian Hotel, Greymouth, up to the 14th January, 1870. If my challenge is not accepted, I will olaitn the championship of the West Coast. December 29, 1869 I?PvA OR £100 A-SIDE, I hereby accept the Challenge of Robert Howe, or any other man on the Gray, to run any distance from 250 yards up to a mile, provided the match oomes off on Saturday next (New Year's Day), as it is not convenient for me to go into training for five or six weeks; and I have deposited at the office of the Grey River Argus the sum of £5, to be covered by Robert Howe, or any other person accepting this challenge.
