BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Theu3iial weekly meeting of th 3Borough Council was held last evening iv the Town Hall. Present : J. Kilgour, Esq. , Mayor, in the chair; Councillors Ken uecly, Parkinson, Wickes, Purcell, and Coate3. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed after a slight amendment. A letter was read from Mr Mackay, Native Commissioner, stating that he would shortly b.J in a position to pay the louu-proiuised subsidy of Lsooj aud that the Government has consented to pay iv future a fair per centage on the nett income accruing annually from the native property at Greymouth as a contribution to the Borough rates. — Received. Two applications from parties of miners for leases' of land, and one tor protection while prospecting within the Borough, were read, and referred to the Mining Committee. Another application was read for a survey of a claim previously applied for by Keating and party, which they were williug to work at their own risk. It wa3 also referred to the Mining Committee. The Mayor suggested that the Town Surveyor ought to be instructed to survey the claims for which applications had been lodged, with deposits. He moved to this effect. Mr Wickes seconded the motion, which was carried. A letter w.as read from, Mr Stephen Roff, wishing to know when his claim against tlie Council would be settled. This was a disputed claim, while the R:>ad Board was in existence. Mr Wiokes moved that the Finance Committee be empowered to t:ike evidence on the matter and *;epjrt. Garni d. The Auditor's account was referred to the Finance Committee for paymeut. By leave, Mr Parkinson moved — "That a return of all applications for claims or leases for mining purposes, be laid upon the table at the next meeting, said return to..inolude, Ist, the names and number of applicants ; 2, date of application ; 3, numerical order of applications ; 4, locality of claims of lease applied for ; 5, amount of deposit on each application." Carried. It wa3 resolved that the Town Clerk confer with the Public Works Committee, and call for tenders from applicants- willing to lease the kerosene depot. The Council then adjourned.
