POLICE REPRESENTATION.

. ■— - — <»■ (To the Editor i>f the Grey River Argus.) Sir — Hearing that there were several candidates to be nominated at the Court House to-day,. for the representation of this district in the Nelson Provincial Council, I attended to hear the views of the candidates for election. Mr Harrison was nominated, but objected to on account of not being qualified, and I must say the Returning Officer performed a disagreeable duty, in giving his decision, very gracefully. But, sir, after this decision had been given and Mr Harrison was out of the field, I think, that the remarks of. Inspector Franklyn in extremely bad taste. I allude to the frequent expressions used by him to Mr Harrison ; for instance, " that Harrison." I know I am not singular in my opinion when- 1 say that 1 was disgusted with the low abuse used by Frauklyn, more particularly when I compare the political al ility and gentlemanly conduct of Mr Harrison with the contemptible proceedings of the other individual. It is possible, nay, more than probable, that Franklyn makes a better constable than Mr Harrison would, and also is able to eat the bread of idleness with greater gusto than that gentleman could, but I am at a loss to conceive that these are desirable qualifications for a councillor. Being of an inquisitive turn of mind, I should very much like to know if inspector Franklyn has permission to neglect his duty and canvass the country for votes 1 Also, if he is in receipt of public money whilst doing so i I am, &c. r .;. ■. Observer. Cobden, Nov. 2, 1869.
