By the s.s. Gothenburg, which arrived .at the Bluff on Sunday, we (W. G. Times) have the following later items of news : — Melbourne, July 19. The Geelong Council proposes borrowing L 15,000. Hugo Levinger has been sentenced to seven years' imprisonment with hard labor. A petition, praying for a mitigation of the sentence, is being numerously signed. RitsoQ has been found guilty of the murder of the Rev Mr Hill, and has been sentenced to death. A new machine on the unycicle principle has been constructed to carry two people. Commercial. — Breadstuff's xmchanged. Wheat, 6s 2d to 6s 3d ; oats (N.Z.), 600 bags, sold at 4s 3d ; maize offering freely at 4s 3d ; salt rising, stocks being light, price, L 5 10s ; hops, inferior, from lOd to Is ; candles, 10£ d. A moderate business has been done m teas. Fine congous, Is lid ; ordinary half-chests, lid ; cornsacks, lid, duty paid. A table centre piece of solid silver has been presented to the Hon J. H. Fellows, for political services. The steamer Reliance foundered off Cape Schanck, but no lives were lost. The Alhambra and the Tarania both arrived on the 17th. The Land Bill is slowly progressing. The vital principles of the Bill have been affirmed. Messrs Danes, Strutt, and Fraser, members of the Legislative Assembly, are charged with having received bribes from Mr Tobin, a squatter. Explanations given in the matter caused fresh complications, and it is proposed to appoint a committee to investigate the charges. The Geolong Woollen Company have declared a dividend of ten per cent. The charge of perjury against Bellamy * has not been sustained.
