The Stockbridge Indians of Wisconsin, once a powerful tribe, now number but 300, and are said to be in want. By an Act of the last Minnesota Legislature, coloured children are permitted to go to the same schools as whites. The ore from the tin mines in Missouri yield four per cent, of metal, while those of Cornwall, England, yield only two per cent. There are now about 12,000 negroes in New York city. There numbers have decreased 25 per cent, in the last six years. A Wisconsin legislative committee has reported unanimously in favor of the reenactment of the death penalty for murder. In Oregon, " bibulation" is said to be a preventive against smallpox ; and the modern style of drinking invitation is, "Let's disinfect." The consumption of cotton in Europe and America in 1867-8 was 5,670,000 bales. The estimated consumption for 1868-9 is 5,445,000 bales. •
