THE SEPARATIONISTS GLEE.
For Three Voices. (From the NeUon Examiner.) Three wights went forth from the golden West, . Held a pray'r in his hand each one— A pray'r to bear to the foot of the throne Of the wily chief who "both governs and reigns" ...".-. In windy Wellington ; But not more diverse are a blessing and a. curse Than the tones of their threefold moap. " Justice we claim for the tribe* that dwell By Buller" cried the first of the three ; *' By Charybdis ana Scylla sore threaten^ are we, And a new broom we crave to sweep Buller out, And a mop to sweep back the sea ; But such mops are dear, aud old Buller, we fear, The grave of much treasure will be,"
" Our friends at the South are faat eating our cake," Whined the second, the. wight from the Grey; "It will soon be gone, and we see no way But to get us a shoe of the untouched North, For the lean on the fat kine must prey ; And it's little we care who contributes his share So the plunder but lasts our day."
" Hold ! thieves," cried the third, from Cobden town, '..■»•■ " Let us stay as. we are for a while, Since we deem.it an ending equally vile To be swallow'd by Qreymoutb, the cormorant, As by Westport, the cro-co-dile ; Nay ! 'twere better to die of pure atrophy Than be chous'd in this impudent style."
