Part of a house, building at Morice Town, Devenport, fell suddenly on 11th Nov. Several persons were near the spot at the time, and eleven were buried in the tains. Mr Oliver, a master builder, was killed, and six others were injured. A tremendous explosion occurred on Thursday afternoon, 26th Nov. at the St. Allen gunpowder works, three miles from Truor. Three shocks followed each other in rapid succession, creating much excitement in Truor, where the houses were shaken as if by an earthquake. The sulphur caught fire in process of grinding, and when the flames burst forth fourteen workmen had time to escape. Four buildings are wholly or partially destroyed. The magazine, containing a very large stock of gunpowder, was about half a mile distant from the scene of the accident. Four lives were lost.
