A series of most important events have transpired in Pailiameut during the last few days Avliioh threaten to alter the whole scope and meaning of the financial proposals and policy of the Government. On Mr. M'Lean's " Alarm motion," which was simply a " no-confi-dence " vote on the Native policy of the Government, the barest possible majority for the Ministry was gained, as the motion was negatived by the casting vote of the Speaker. The Opposition thereupon proposed an amendment, which they lost by one vote. This being too narrow a majority for the Government to Avork with, without the constant fear of being defeated on an important question of policy or finance through the absence of one of their supporters, they resolved, rather than resign office, to withdraw for the present session all political bills and financial proposals, so that for another year, at least, the share we are iioav receiving of the Customs revenue will continue to come to us, and enable our Road Boards and Municipalities to do much useful work in opening up the country.
