MEXICO.

(By Overland Telegraph.) San Francisco, July 2. The English war steamer Chanticleer, being at Mazatlan, the Collector was informed that one of the officers was smuggling gold on board. He was searched, and gold found on him. The captain went ashore and announced his intention to bombard the town to avenge the insult to the English flag. Ultimately he consented merely to blockade the port till ' receipt of orders from the Admiral. The Uniied States war steamer Suwanee has gone to protect American interests. The Legislature at Senola will repeal restrictions for the exportation of bullion. The war steamer Juarez, presented to the Mexican Government by the Californian, Oregon, and Mexican Steamship Company, has arrived at Mazatlan. General Corona had left Mazatlan with three thousand men for Durango, where the forces will be increased to twelve thousand men, when he will march against the insurgents further east. Advices from Lower California are discouraging, The Government refused to allow the shipment of s'lver bars unless six per cent duty be added to the charges heretofore paid. The mining companies have determined to leave the works — virtually suspending all busiuess. Several severe shocks of earthquake were felt at Cape St. Lewis on June 21st. A Mexican correspondent gives details of a plan for the annexation of the Northern States of Mexico to the United States, iv which, the Governments of England, France, and the United States are concerned, all holders of claims against Me-ico, of whatever nationality, are to be satisfied. The only hope of their payment lies in the United States, and assumption by our Government of all the just indebtedness of Mexico, in consideration of the transfer to the United States by Mexico of her northern tier of States. There is great conflict of opinion as to which pa,rty is most to blame in the Anglo- Mexican difficulty. Colonel Juclan, who had command of the Imperial police at the execution of General Nicholas Romero, has been sentenced to death, but has filed a petition for pardon. The execution of Romero was for crimes committed on French soldiers, and was ordered by a French court martial in 1867. General Escobedo has taken the field to root out the Santa Anna rebels in Sierra Gorda. General Corona is reported to have gone to Sonora-Execuli. In the State of Jalisco, the famous Colonel Chavez has pronounced in favor of Santa Anna, and the authorities have given him seven hundred guns. General Martinez, of Sinaloa, is again on the war path. He has captured the town of Fuerte-Tolentino. A proposition to Edward Stephenson, by the Governors of the States of Mexico, for the construction of the Rio Grande, Pacific and Mexico City Railroad had been favorably received. The crops of the country are a total failure. The United States Consul at Victoria, V.1., reports the loss of the American schooner Growler, on the rocks at the head of Vancouver Island. Thirteen lives and £35,000 worth of cargo were lost.
