REWARDS FOR GOLD DISCOVERIES
(Co thj Editor of. tiio Ore;/ J! her Argius.) Siu,- Now that the Kelson Gold" Fields are atliucting tho. popalatioii of West O.iuixTbnry, would it not boa wiso thh^ l^il^discm^^dP^^P^^varcward for :^ th?^|p^f^oinew gold fields ? I would . for the consideration of our :. |<|^P. 0. that he endeavor to persuade the 1 Council to sanction the granting of rewards on a. scale similar to the following— say, LIOOO for the. discovery of a new gold field not less than ten miles from any existing workings, which shall produce 10,000 ounces within four months of the date of discovery ; 2nd, LSOO for any similar discovery of ground which shall produce 5000 ounces in four months, and so on in proportion— Lloo for every thousand ounces. This plan .amounts to offering as «a -premium not quite the ex-port-duty on the four months' yield, and I think it would induce much greater activity in prospecting than now prevails. I. am, (&c, GpiDEJf FIEECE.
