Notice is hereby given that the channel over the bar at the entrance of the Hokianga River (as; laid down in Captain Drury's sur-i vey) has lately s.hoaled tp geven feet at low water, and is no longer safe to enter. The proper entrance now for vessels is by a new channel whifih has opened about two (2) cables' length to the southward of the phi one, haying.a breadth of about onerand-a : half (1^) cables' length, and a depth of eighteen (18) feet at lpw water, The mark for entering the same id to bring the flagstaff on South Head tp bear N.E. by E. \ E., and be further guidqd by a white square at the yard-arms of the flagstaff, which/ hoisted /at the south yard-arm denote "Keep more to the southward," and when hoisted at the north yardarm, .-*' Keep more tp the riprthward ;" both squares down denote "Steer as you gp." Two beacons will,, within a short time, be erected on the Soutjh Jgead as leading marks fpr c.rosaing t]ie bar,
