MEXICO.
Advices from Mexico state that the Emperor Maximilian is making his way back again to the capital of that unhappy country, Marshal Bazaine having sent word to him ; that he would be placed under arrest if he attempted to depart. The Imperialists .are reported to bo act-
ing on the defensive at all points, and it is believed they have barely force enough to. keep open their line of communication between Mexico city and Vera Cruz. General Ortega has been arrested at Brownsville and sent to New Orleans by order bf General Phil. Sheridan, it being feared that Ortega was about creating trouble for the Jaurez Government. It is rumored that Maximilian is inclined to abdicate the throne of Mexico in favor of young Iturbide, but that Marshal Bazaine will not permit any clung of the kind. Positive information has been received from the City of Mexico, that the withdrawal of the Emperor Maximilian is final and complete, and that all obstacles to his embarkation for Europe have been removed. Alette* from Washington states that " tlie deoris of the Empire of Mexico is in the hands of Marshal Bazaine, and that he has expressed his desire to surrender lip the trust at the earliest possible moment." ■'.■•' The French Minister at Washington has represented to Secretary Soward, that the Emperor Napoleon is zealously employed, in perfecting arrangements for the imnie.diate withdrawal; of his entire army, in ■proof of which statement h§ has furnished the names of fourteen large transports about to sail from Brest, and of ten others that will iin mediately follow. This fleet may be confidently expected at Vera Cruz before the end of December, and the whole French expeditionary corps will doubtless have embarked by the last cf January. . Still later advices from Mexico announce that General Sherman and Minister Campbell have arrived in Vera Cruz, and wore receiving every courtesy and respect from the Mexican people, and every kindness aud attention from the French.authorities. It was repcr ted that the Emperor Maximilians's baggage had been shipped to Austria, aud that, the French troops were being concentrated at one point, preparatory to taking their, final departure from the country. :
