Sik— Observing in your issue of Saturday last an attempt to throw dirty water on the> actions of the Committee of the Christmaa Sports, after their strenuous exertions in getting up games for the amusement of the public, I, as one of the Coniniitt!',, leg you. will, through the medium of your : paper* contradict the fabulous imputations of our, " Old England" friend, who distinctly states that his friend Robson was the successful competitor for the high leap, and had made repeated applications for his prize, and could not get it. Now, Sir, you will be astonished, as will also the world, when I inform you that Robson did not compete at air for the high leap, the- successful competitor being MrO'Donnell, who, along, with the others who gained pxizes, . got their money immediately 011 application at the proper place and tune What reason your correspondent- has for rushing into print with such mis* statements I must leave it for those who know the nature of the man to inform us* The^-e , are others who subscribed nearly double the amount he «3id» who haveji na desire to show the world what they could afford; but should he particularly wish toshow the world his liberal disposition, a <~ ; donation to the hospital, along with an ff 1 apology to the Committee, will bring out his !*S name in full.
