THE CHRISTMAS SPORTS.
(To. the Editor of the Grey Jiiver Argus.) Sir, —As Secretary of the Christinas Sports I suppose I am bound to reply to Mr. Fisher's lucubrations in Saturday's issue. I will commence to do so in dne order. The reason why the subscription l^sts Were not advertised, is simply because stho cost of doing would have been too expensive-; but if Mr Fisher wishes the amount or his liberal donation to go forth to the. world, then his course lies quite clear. Before answering why the prizes were not paid, I would advise Mr Fisher to be rather more guarded in hia assertions for the future, and in reply to the question, beg most emphatically to state that firstly Robson was not thS winuer of the high leap, and secondly, that all the prizes were paid to the winners at the Albion hotel on the evening of the days on which thejr were respectively won, according to adver* tisement, and consequently Mr Fisher's statements are incorrect. In conclusion I have only to say that the Committed duties have been anything but pleasant, and instead of being obliged to reply to such childish nonsense, they ought at least to be sheltered by their fellow townsmen from such libellous imputations. Apologising for trespassing ou, your valuable space, 1 am, &c, ; F. Cohen, January 7, 1867. Hon. Sec.
