The condition of affairs in Candia and Eastern Europe generally is engaging the most anxious attention of the Governments of Austria, Prussia, England. Russia, and France. The consolidation of the ßusso- American alliance attracts most earnest attention in France, England, and Germany. A leading German paper says that by the union Russia is " protected from unfortunate incidents," such as occurred during the progress of the Crimean war. The Moscow " Gazette " on the Eastern question says : — " No alliance is possible for Russia except one with the United States of America. The allies of Russia in Europe are nowhere ! Then let us seek to conclude a holy alliance with America." In regard to the desire of the United States to secure a naval station in the Mediterranean, the same paper saps : — " The nearer the time approaches for the dissolution of the Turkish Empire, the more do our interests demand that part of that empire should revert to the United States. When the latter possesses a naval stationin the Mediterranean, tho American flag will be able to prevent the fleets of Western Europe making a forcible entry into the Black Sea, while our Baltic fleet . will protect American interests in the 1 north of Europe, Pensylvania has been carried by the Radicals by a majority of 10,000, Ohio by 35,000, Indianna by 15,000, and lowa by about 15,000. The Congressional Delegations stand about the same as before.
