PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
In the Provincial Gouncil on Tuesday the Financial Statement was postponed until to-day. In answer tp Mr Bright, the Government stated that it was tlieir intention to hand over 6ibson J s Quay, Hokitika, to the Municipal Council. Mr Bright also asked whether it was the intention of tlie Government to promote the cpnstruptipn pf tramways and roads by guaranteeing a certain amount of interest on the capital invested The Provincial Secretary replied that such was tlie intention of the Government but on certain conditions. Messrs Barff, Duncan, Hawkes, Wilson, the Provincial Solicitor, and Mr Bright were appointed a Committee to report upon the Hokitika Reserves. " Mr Barff obtained leave to introduce a Bill to establish an Education Board in Westland. The Secretary of Public Works obtained leave to bring in a Bill authorising the lease of the Grey River coal fields reserve. Mr Barff withdrew his Westland Ferries Bill.
