THE WHOLE NATIVE FORCE KILLED, OR TAKEIS T PRISONERS. [BY SUBMARINE TELEGKAIH,] (From the Nelson Examiner.) Welungtox, Oct. 16. The body of about seventy Hau Haus* who arrived at Petane, Hawke's .Bay, a fortnight ago, having been reinforced by about forty more, and refusing to explain their intentions, Mr M'Lean, the Superintendent of Hawke's Bay, determined tv enforce their removal., On Monday, tho Bth inst.,.the Hawke's Bay Slilitia was* called out and drilled during the throe following days, Major .Eraser's- party, ac "Wairoa, having been sent for by sea. ;■ On Thursday night, nearly two hundred Militia and Volunteers, and the same number of Natives, inarched to Omaranui pah, and completely surrounded the Hau Haus before daybreak. One hour was, given them to surrender, and a$ the end of two hours they still refused. At seven o'clock the attack commenced, and in'^jlilfan hour they hoisted a flag of truce and forty-seven surrendered. Several of thesq escaped, but all except four were retaken, and the whole inarched to Napier barracks. The casul tics were twenty-three Hau Haus killed and the same number wounded, On our side one militiaman, -and three, Friendly Natives were killed ; nine militiamen and four Friendly Natives wounded, Major Fraser's party had been; sent elsewhere, and fell in .with anothej&body 4 of twenty-two Hau Hans. During 1 a fight wliich lasted only a few minutes, twelve of the enemy were killed and 'twu wounded. . Another expedition of seventy Volun-. teers .was sent oft" from Napier pn Saturdaylast, on a roving commission. ' ..'
