At seven o'clock the attack commenced, and in'^jlilfan hour they hoisted a flag of truce and forty-seven surrendered. Several of thesq escaped, but all except four were retaken, and the whole inarched to Napier barracks. The casul tics were twenty-three Hau Haus killed and the same number wounded, On our side one militiaman, -and three, Friendly Natives were killed ; nine militiamen and four Friendly Natives wounded, Major Fraser's party had been; sent elsewhere, and fell in .with anothej&body 4 of twenty-two Hau Hans.
