(To the Editor of the : Grey Biver Argus.) Sir— lf there is one class of men more widely detested than another, it is that pf "informers ;" and none are more unpopular in communities like^ ours than those wlib personally . put the law in motion against "sly, grog- sellers," Now, Sir, I have to complain that a Dumber of persons have chosen to dub me as an "informer," in reference to the unlicensed dealers in spirituous liquors, an imputation which I deny most emphatically. Although" a sufferer by the dealers referred ''to, I have never on -any occasion'used any steps to deter them, except by simply remonstrating with the individuals' 'themselves, and then only when they had been underselling the licensed dealer. My chief reason for making this public dcclara- ' tion is that I have already been subjected to insult and violence, 'on account of the unfounded imputation I refer to ; and hi order that others may understand that I am deter;, mined to protect myself ' in all future cases against those who libel my character, " -lam, &c, J. Thompson. Ballarat Hotel, South Beach.
