CHRISTCHTJRCH. Wednesday, December 27. [Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., EM., and Major Bamfield, J.P.] Drunkenness.—For first offences sis men were fined each ss, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Win. Gundry, who had exposed himself, was fined £2 ss, cr in default five days' imprisonment with hard labor. Alleged Larceny.—A charge against Jno. Proudfoot of stealing a knife, a hammer, and some nails from J. T. Dingle, a butcher, of Richmond, was withdrawn by the police. Gambling.—George Smith was charged with playing on the Heathcote racecourse a game with dice called Yankee Pan. At the request of the accused a remand was granted till January 3rd to allow of the attendance of Mr Holmes, his solicitor. Assault and Injury to Property.— Michael Hahir, who when drunk was refused by a respectable married woman admission to her house in Colombo road on Boxing Day, and who had broken some pane of glass, and violently assaulted the woman, was fined .£2 ss, and ordered to pay 6a for damage, or in default to be imprisoned for three days with hard labor. Carriage By-Laws.—Thomas Fowler was fined 10s for attempting to take out of his turn a job with his carrier's van at the railway. A similar case against Wm. Wright, a cabman, was adjourned for one week.
