LATE CABLE NEWS.

[By Telegraph.]

[Per Waiarapa, at the Bluff.]

[“ AGE ” SPECIALS.] XiOMDON, December 17.

The occurrence of a disastrous fire, involving the destruction of a large amount of valuable property, is reported from Calcutta. Mr Shaw Lefevre, First Commissioner of Public Worts and Buildings, has been appointed acting Postmaster General, and will continue to discharge the duties of the office until Mr Fawcett is sufficiently recovered to attend to the business of his department. Letters appearing in the English and Continental Press on the position of matters in Turkey, have given great offence to the Sultan and his Ministers. Strict censorships have therefore been established over despatches of the special correspondents of the various European newspapers. The Fenian agitation in Dublin is again assuming alarming proportions. The low dram shops of the city are the constant resorts of conspirators. They have therefore been strictly watched for some time, and recently carefully searched by the Dublin police. Nothing was found however to justify any arrests, nor were any concealed arms discovered. A large number of persons have been rendered homeless, and in several cases have been ruined by the recent disastrous fire at Kingston. The Governor of Jamaica, Sir Anthony Musgrave, has suggested the formation of a fund for the relief of the sufferers Shy the calamity, so there seems every probability of the matter being warmly taken up throughout England.
