FIRE AT ASHBUROTN.

[fkom our correspondent.] ASHBUBTON, December 23. Shortly after twelve o'clock last night a fire was discovered in the main building of Mr W. R. Dunn's American reaper and binder works. The Ashburton and Western Fire Brigades were on the spot shortly after the alarm was given, but before water could be got to play on the -building the whole structure was a mass of flame, and was soon razed to the ground. It is stated that large quantities of machine fittings and working plant and machinery have been destroyed. Mr Dunn, who was away out of town, will be a heavy loser, both by the destruction of his plant and the consequent delay cause:? to much of the work he had in hand. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building was insured in the North British and Mercantile for .£75, and the stock for .£2OO in the same office. The insurances do not cover near the amount of the damage done by the fire.
