AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The adjourned annual meeting of this Council was held at Waiau on Wednesday, December 20th. Present—Messrs G. W. Mcßae, J. H. Davison, James Macfarlane and E. H. King. Mr James Macfarlane was unanimously elected to be chairman for the year. Correspondence was read— From C. Whitefoord, Esq., Beturning Officer, notifying the Council that Mr, Richard Corbett, of Highfield, was duly elected a member of the Council for Tennyson Biding. Telegram from the Under-Secretary of Public Works, requesting information required under subsection 8, section 3 of Boad Board Act, 18S2. Letter from T. Fraser tendering

his resignation as Registrar of Dogs. Letter from Messrs Joynt and Perceral, solicitors, enclosing draft petitions re alteration of the boundaries of the county. As the information desired by the Under Secretary for Public Works was fully supplied in the body of the petition from the Council re alteration of county

boundaries, the clerk was instructed to obtain the signatures of those members of the Council not present, and forward it to the Council's solicitor without delay. The resignation of Mr Thos. Fraser as registrar of dogs was accepted. Mr Davison mored —" That this Council resolves to undertake the administration of its own hospital and charitable aid fund, and that the chairman be requested to write to the Colonial Secretary, informing him of the resolution, and requesting that the appropriation to Christchurch Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on behalf of Amuri county be discontinued." Mr Mcßae seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously. Mr Mcßae proposed—- " That the Chairman be instructed to write to the Minister of Public Works, and inquire what steps are being taken towards the expenditure of the vote for bridging the Waiau river, at Arthur's Ferry; also for the continuation of the road from "Waiau through to Kaikoura." Mr Davison seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. The following notices of motion were given for January 2nd : —Mr Davison to move—- " That a petition be presented to his Excellency the Governor praying for an increase of Councillors in the Tekoa riding from three to five." *' That the tax on sheep dogs be reduced to 5s for the year 1883." " That a committee be appointed to draw up by-laws for the Waiau pound, and a scale of fees for hawkers' licenses." The clerk was instructed to advertise for a supnly of dog collars, and labels for collars. Accounts amounting to ,£IG 14s -n ere then passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
