CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, December 21. [Before J. Ollivier. Esq., R.M., Major Barnfield, and R. Westenra, Esq., J.P.s] Drunkenness. —George Bligh, who had been remanded on a charge of drunkenness and indecent exposure, and who had since been under medical treatment, was ordered to pay 4s Gd for his maintenance while in gaol, and was fined ss. For a first offence a man was fined ss. The Murphy Family.—John Murphy -was charged with violently assaulting Michael Murphy. Mr Holmes appeared for accused. It was stated that the prosecutor was suffering from a cut on the head and was unable to appear. Dr. Symes was put in the box, and deposed to having seen him late the previous night, shortly after he had received an incised wound in the scalp. Witness could not say that nrose- J cutor was unfit to appear. Mr McConnel, I who appeared for him, was also unable to give any account of his condition. Sergeant Mason said he believed prosecutor was quite fit to appear, The Bench, commenting on the public nuisance these Murphys were and the cavalier way in which they treated the Bench, ordered the case to procued. J. Bradley, cailed for the prosecution, stated tbat the prosecutor had laid in wait for the accused and had then attacked him. They then closed in a fight, and accused struck prosecutor with a bottle. The police came up and Michael gave his brother in charge. Other evidence was given to show that prosecutor was the af<*ressor and the case was dismissed. "Wife Desertion. —Michael Murphy, charged as above, did not appear. The case was adjourned for a fortnight. Neglected Children.—Three children of Michael and Isabella Murphy were ordered to be brought before the Court at its next sitting, for the purpose of bemg sent to Burnham. . Burnham School.—Antonio Juris, in arrears with his contributions towards the maintenance of his children, not having paid up, was sentenced to be imprisoned lor fourteen days
