(By Telegraph:.]

[[from our correspondent.] WELLINGTON, December 14.

Applications under the Eoads and Bridges Construction Act are now beginning to come in a little faster, and it is probable a considerable batch may arrive by the end of the month. The total amonnt applied for up to this evening is £48,081. 1 ho amounts are not classified among the provincial districts. The complete list is as follows ; Main roads, Coromandel county, £6000; Bay of Islands, £2000; Taranaki, £600; Hutt. £2750; Taieri, £7500; Waitaki, £5826; Hawke’s Bay, £11,586; Eangitikei, £3000; Whangarei, £2625. District roads. Waiareka Eoad

Board, £4000; Wairoa, £800; Cambridge, £1000; Waitakeri, £IOOO. From this it will be seen that Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, and Otago, are at present going in for the lion’s share of the funds, Canterbury, Nelson, Westland, and Marlborough are conspicuous for their absence, but the Selwyn County gives notice that it intends to unite with Ashburton in applying jointly for a grant towards a bridge over the Eakaia.
