Intensely cold weather is now being experienced in Scotland, and heavy snowstorms have completely blocked the roads, and railway lines in many districts. Weather of a severe character is also being experienced in the North of England, and partial snow blocks have occurred in some places.

The trial of the rebel leaders is now being rapidly proceeded with,and the following prisoners have been condemned to exile, the death sentences which were passed upon them having been commuted by the Khedive : Mahomed Pehmy and Mahomed Sarny, formerly members of the Ministry; Adellal, one of Arabi’s colonels and commander of the' rebel garrison at Damietta ; Toulba Pasha, formerly Governor of Alexandria.
