THE GLOBE. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1882. OUR LOCAL INDUSTRIES.

We are glad to notice that the suggestions made by us with regard to the improvements necessary in connection with the Metropolitan Show have borne fruit. At yesterday’s meeting of the committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association a letter was read from Mr. Jameson urging the adoption of the very course we have advocated. There is no doubt whatever of the fact that the Mew Zealand manufactures and products form the most interesting portion of the show, and that they will increase every year. The question therefore seems to ns to present itself for consideration whether it would not bo wise policy on tho part of the Association to go to a little expense in the matter of building, so that tho whole of these exhibits could he placed under coier. There is no doubt that the number of exhibitors would increase were this done, and it would to a very large extent place the Association in tho position of not being so dependent upon fine weather. This plan of having nearly all the exhibits under cover is carried out in connection with the Royal Agricultural Society’s Shows at home. At the last one held in Joly at Reading nearly all the exhibits, including the machinery, were under cover. If a building twice the size of the one now erected on the grounds were at the tlispssal of exhibitors, particularly of those for whom no classes are provided in the catalogue, the Association would find that not only would the popularity of their show be greatly enhanced, but a fairly good amount of revenue obtained from the renting of space. As it is now these exhibitors ore obliged to have tents, which, to say the least of it, even in fine weather, are inconvenient. We hpa the ground committee to whom this subject has boon referred will see their way clear to recommend the adoption of some such a course as we have suggested, and that next year the shed room now available on the ground will bo increased to at least double its present, extent.
