CRICKET.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —As a member of the oldest club in Christchurch, namely, the United C.C.C., I havo been considerably disappointed in the manner in which it lias collapsed in its last two matches against the Midland C.C. and the Lancaster Park C.C.. Especially against the latter the manner in which the U.C.C.C. sticks flew about in the second innings was most annoying, more especially as the match at the time was a very open one, and many thought the U.C.C. could pull it through. Now I know that the ohauees iu cricket are very great, and that a team, however good, cannot always be expected to he victorious, hut two collapses following the one close on the heels of the other require explanation, and I certainly attribute them to the had practice wickets given to the U.C.C.C. This matter has been brought up before tbe proper authorities time out of number, and nothing comes of it. As long as no member of our club can practise without the danger of having “ bis right eye knocked into the heel of his left boot” I take it that the members will never get iuto thoroughly good batting form. The Lancaster Park Club, although a young club, gives its members good practice wickets, and consequently, when the tug of war comes, the club comes to the front.

Yours, &c., A MEMBER OF THE U.C,C.C, Christchurch, Nov. 29th.
