CHRISTCHUECH. Satubday, Novehbek 25. [Before J. Ollivier, Esq., R.M.] Alleged Indecent Assault.—Benjamin Cleary, on remand from Friday, was again brought up. Mr Salter appeared for accused, and called Thomas Saggers, who deposed that on the day when the assault was said to have been committed accused had been working for him, and it would have been morally impossible for him to have been connected with it. The Magistrate said the evidence of the little girl had been uncommonly clear ; but, in the face of the evidence, he could not possibly send the case for trial. Accused was then discharged.
Petty Larceny—Henry Birmingham, alias Charles Morris, was charged with stealing a carving fork, valued at ss, the property of Mrs Jewel, of Salisbury street. Accused is an itinerant umbrella repairer, and picked up the fork in one of his visits. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
