AUCKLAND, November 23,
The Waitemata County Council have decided to borrow £IO,OOO under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. The Postmaster here has compulsorily registered all letters addressed to Zoo Jumbo and Ada Mantua. Those persons fearing prosecution under the Gaming and Lotteries Act refused to take delivery, and in one week alone unclaimed letters containing £3OOO were sent to the Dead Letter office from Auckland. FEILDING, November 23.
The Cheltenham saw-mill was burned down this morning at four o’clock. It is insured for .£6OO, but the office is not known. Messrs Death and Mills are the proprietors, and Mr Munro and another the leaseholders. An inquiry will be held. The workmen living in the huts had a narrow escape. KUMAEA, November 23. Mr Seddon, M.H.E., addressed a large meeting of electors at Dilmanstown last evening. He reviewed his actions during the last session of Parliament. A vote of thanks and confidence was unanimously carried. After his address, Mr W. Morris, on behalf of the miners of Kumara and Staffordtown, took the opportunity of presenting him with a gold watch, as a mark of their esteem and appreciation of his services on their behalf in the New Zealand Parliament.

Catherine Anderson died at Deborah Bay yesterday under suspicious circumstances.
