CRICKET.
THE HON. IYO BLIGH’S ELEVEN. BY CABLE. By Electric Telegram—Copyright. [reciter's telegrams.] Received November 20th, 10.11 p.m. ■ MELBOURNE. November 17. The weather to-day was somewhat unfavorable for the cricket owing to the frequent showers of rain, and the match between the Victorian Eleven and the Hon. Ivo lirdi's t eam was not resumed until this afternoon. The home team continued their second innings with three wickets to fall, the score standing at 121, and put together IG9 before they were all disposed of. The scores of to-day’s play were as follows : McShane, c, 15 ; Cooper, c, 8 ; Bruce, c, 40; Logan, not out, 0. The Australians’ total for their first and second innings being exactly equal to the score of the Englishmen in their first innings. The latter won the match by ten wickets. The attendance of spectators during the day was small.
A well-attended meeting was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Saturday evening to elect officers and committee for the Ohoka cricketers, the Rev. A. B. Inwood presiding. It was agreed to adopt the name of the United Ohoka Club. The Rev. A. R. Inwood was elected president, Mr R. Wright captain, Mr Marsiack secretary and treasurer, and Messrs Clark, C. Marsiack, Alwyno, Clist and Orchard were elected a committee of management. It was reported that -27 had been spent in purchase of material, and that there was .£2 12s Gd iu hand. It was resolved, in consequence of the cricketing ground being lumpy, that cocoa-nut matting be purchased. No doubt from the enthusiastic manner in which cricketing has been taken up the United Ohoka will be heard of again. A cricket match was played at Glentunnel on Saturday last between the South Malvern District and the Sheffield Clubs. The ground was rather rough, but some very fair play was shown. The local team wore all disposed of in the first innings for twelve runs, being quite unable to stand before the visitors’ bowling. The second innings came to an end for 47, 12 being the highest individual score. Sheffield, first 51, and 103 in the second innings, therefore won the match by 05 runs. Laud 31 and 5, Rutherford 14 and 9, Highway 6 and 15, were the best for Sheffield. Mavsden bowled very well for Malvern, and Horner and Laud for Sheffield. Horner and Barlow deserve special praise for their smart fielding. The South Malvern team entertained the visitors at a dinner the same evening.
