LYTTELTON REGATTA.
[cress association telegram.] WELLINGTON, November 17. The following letter appears in to-night’s “ Post”: —“ I feel sure you will learn with regret that the Lyttelton regatta committee, after advertising an Intercolonial Champion Pour-oared Outrigger Pace, first prize £125, the only restriction being three provincial districts to be represented or no race, have now decided not to allow coxswainless boats to compete. From this it would appear that they are somewhat anxious to retain the prize in their province, as to my certain knowledge three Northern clubs, Wellington, Wanganui, and Poxton would bo unable to compete, haying no boats of the necessary qualifications’.' Hitherto it has been always optional in intercolonial races to carry a coxswain or not. I cannot think this innovation at all a wise one, as it will entirely prevent that healthy competition from outside clubs which so conduces to success in rowing. Should this restriction be insisted upon the Wellington crew will not compete.”'
