The following correspondence re the Sorrento case has been forwarded to us for publication : [Copy of telegram.] “ Christchurch, 30th October, 1832. “ To the Secretary of Customs, Wellington. “ The agents of the steamer Sorrento asked this Board to remit harbor dues, stating at the same time that the Government had agreed to remit their dues at all ports. The chairman desires me to inquire what dues, if any, tho Government agreed to remit in the Sorrento’s case. “ C. H. Williams, “ Secretary Lyttelton Harbor Board.” [Copy of telegram.] “Wellington, 4th November, 1883. “To C. H. Williams, Esq., Secretary Harbor Board, Christchurch. “ I find there has I eon some misaxiprehension about the remission of dues on the Sorrento. What tho Government had in view was tho projected direct line of mail steamers, on which tho remission of light duos was promised. The case of Sorrento not been settled. Regret the unavoidable delay in answering your telegram of 20th ultimo. “ Wh. Seed, “ Secretary of Customs.”
