Owing to the protest of the Waikatos, the first prize for the war canoe race at the late regatta was not given to the Ngapahi canoe, but the second prize of ,£SO, and the first to the Waikato. The Ngapahi canoe was not really a war canoe. Sidney Tawhanga and the delegates arrived by the Eingarooma. A meeting will be held on December Sth, at Waitangi Hall, to receive Sidney’s report of the Home trip. At a meeting for the purpose of establisishing a Deep Sea Fishing and Curing Company, a committee was appointed to collect data for submission to a future meeting. Intelligence was received by the mail of the death of the Eev. Moses Elkin in London, for seventeen years Jewish rabbi in Auckland. The Catholic community are making great preparation for the reception of Bishop Luxs. In order to facilitate the coaling of steamers in the Port, the Harbor Board will erect immediately a coaling station at the Railway Wharf at a cost of .£2217. At the half-yearly drill of the Hamilton Cavalry Volunteers the total number on parade of all ranks was seven. WELLINGTON, November 14. The election of Mayor takes place on the 22nd inst. The present Mayor, Mr Geo. Fisher, offers himself for re-election, and as yet there is nobody mentioned to oppose him. * The rainfall this week has not increased the quantity of water in the city reservoir, and unless we are favored with a heavy downpour this week the supply to householders will have to be considerably curtailed. A supplementary “ Gazette,” issued today, fixes the revised scale of freight on the New Zealand railways .to come into force on the 11th proximo. Passenger fares do not appear as yet to be altered. The Wanaka, with the San Francisco mail, left Onehunga at 10.20 a.m. to-day. She is expected to reach Taranaki about midnight, and arrangements have been made with the lauding service to fetch off the mails at once, when the steamer will proceed to Wellington direct, in that case arriving hero to-morrow afternoon. The weather at present is unfavorable, and should this continue, bo as to prevent the Wanaka leaving New Plymouth until tomorrow forenoon, she would go round by Nelson and Picton, in that case not arriving hero until Thursday evening. TIMARU, November 14. The Hon. W. Eollestou arrived here this morning, and left for Waimate and Oamaru in the evening. He returns on Thursday, with the intention of visiting the Albury and Fairlie Creek Railway line. DUNEDIN, November 14. The Chamber of Commerce to-day agreed to deputationise Hon. Mr Johnston to push on the Otago Central Railway. It is stated that Sir Julius Vogel will arrive at the Bluff about the 20th inst. Besides the Otago Central Railway question the Chamber of Commerce to-day fixed deputations on two other subjects to interview Mr Johnston, namely, the Railway Station site and Graving Dock. By the ship Dunedin, from Glasgow, Dr. Low arrived. Ho was an Otago High School and University boy, who went Home to study medicine, and took high honors. INVERCARGILL, November 14. A beginning is about to be made to reconstruct the Invercargill railway station. Tenders are invited for a goods shed 300 ft long. The entire station is to be remodelled and the goods and passenger departments kept separate. Sixteen hundred yards of platforms are to be made. Also new workshops, new bridges and sorting sidings will be made. The cost will be about £IO,OOO. The alterations at the Bluff station will cost £ISOO.
