- - ■ " LANCASTEE PAEK v U.C.C.C. The second of the cup matches played by the Lancaster Park C.C. was begun on Saturday on their own ground. This time the U.C.C.C. were their opponents. Lancaster Park went in first, and were all disposed of for 97, of which number Mr Dunlop made 19, Mr W. P. Eeeves 26, Mr Wilding 16, and Mr Caygill 10. Messrs Ashby and Harman did the best of the bowling for the U.C.C.C., the former taking four wickets for 47 rims, and the latter three wickets for 60 runs. The U.C.C.C. then took up the willow, and when time was called had scored 86 for the loss of four wickets, Mr Ashby notching 11, Mr Hartland 43 (not out), and Mr Fenwick 11 (not out). Lancaster Park unfortunately had to play without their principal bowler, W. Frith. A full score will be given at tho conclusion of the match. MIDLAND C.C. v ADDINGTON C.C. This match, one of the series of cup matches, was commenced on the Hagley Park ground on Saturday. As was expected the Midland proved too strong for the Addington men, and remained at the wicket all day, scoring 252 with nine wickets down, the bowling of their opponents being completely collared. P. Phillpot made 49, G. Watson 45, and J. Fowke 84 (not out), while Messrs Strange and Paul scored 16 each. E, T. A. Fuller made 11 (not out), finishing the day’s proceedings by a judicious fiver into the U.C.C.C. pavilion. The full score will he given on the completion of the match. SECOND ELEVEN U.C.C.C. vCHEIST’S COLLEGE. This match was commenced on the Hagley Park ground on Saturday. The U.C.C.C. went in first,and collapsed before the bowling of Messrs Matthias and Lowry for the ridiculously small score of 34, none of the players getting into double figures. Tho College for their first innings put together 87, of which A. Harman made 13, H. E. Mathias 21, A. G. Cox 12, and Hassal 11. The U.C.C.C. in their second innings commenced well, Messrs Done and Cox keeping up their wickets to the call of time, when 37 appeared on the board with no wickets down. Practically, therefore, the U.C.C.C. will start next Saturday only 16 behind their opponents, so that the game may be said to be “ anybody’s match.” SECOND ELEVEN MIDLAND v ST. . ALBANS. This match was played on Saturday on the Hagley Park Ground. The Midland went to the wickets, and remained there all day, putting together the large score of 308 with nine wickets down. The phenomenon occurred of the last man making 131 runs. When H. Eowe went in the score stood at 116. He commenced with a 4, and from that time till time was called hit the bowling about all over the field in the freest of manners. ■ At the other end E. Whiting was by no means idle. He went in first, and made 101, not out. As the score is altogether a curiosity in cricketing literature, we append it in full. The match will not he played out. Second Eleven Midland. First Innings. A match between the married members and the single of the Lyttelton Club was played on Saturday afternoon at the Heathcote Valley. The benedicts scored 88 in two innings, and the bachelors put together 54 in tho first innings, and had scored 8 in the second for four wickets, when the stumps were drawn. The married score for the first innings was but 26. OXFOED C.C. (CHEISTCHUECH) v KAIAPOI UNITED C.C. A match between elevens of the above clubs was played on Saturday in a field kindly lent by Mr E. Parnham. Mr Wenlock* captained the Oxford men, Mr W. Waring the Kaiapoi eleven. The match was decided by the first innings, in which the highest individual scores were C. Fluety 21, W. Waring 13, for the home side ; and J. Kavanagh 11, and Stapleton 8, for the visitors. Pearce and Waring bowled for the K.U.C.C., and Parkyn and Hardie for the O C.C. The Kaiapoi Club scored 50 runs, and the Oxford Club 39. AMBEELEY v WAIKAEI. The return match was played between these clubs on Saturday at Amberley, and resulted in an easy win for Amberley. The scores were—Waikari : First innings, 22 ; second innings, 63. Amberley : First innings, 76. Amberley obtained the necessary (nine) runs to win in their second innings without the loss of a wicket. JUNIOE WOOLLEN PACTOEY C.C. v, JUNIOE MAOEI C.C. A match was played on Saturday between the hoys’ club of the Woollen Factory at Kaiapoi and the Junior Maori Cricket Club. The .latter scored 94 runs, the Pakeha lads only 35. J. Urn made a score of 39, and a Native stripling dubbed Captain Cocks bowled dead on the wicket. THIED ELEVEN LANCASTEE PAEK v MEEIVALB C.C. A match was played on Saturday between the above-named elevens and resulted in a victory for Lancaster Park by 49 runs on the first innings. Scores—Lancaster Park, 71 first innings, and 91, with three wickets down, second innings. Merivale, first innings, 22. For Lancaster Park, Francis made II and 64 (not out); T. Smith, 13 and 10; Dumaresque, 19; and Hassal, 18. None of the Morivalites reached doable figures.
