COMMERCIAL.
The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Tuesday, October 31st, were as follows :—Spirits/£229 18s 4d; tobacco, £156 3d Cd; beer, £8 ss; sugar, £4912s 4d; tea, £23 8s 4d; goods by weight, lis 9d ; ad valorem, £23 3s; other duties, £23 Ida 7d. Total, £522 10s Bd. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS. Dunedin, November 1. Cattle and Grain Market—An excessive supply of fat cattle was yarded to-day, and the market consequently was depressed. Beef suffered a decline of about 2s 6d per lOOlbs. Bullocks brought up to £l3 2s 6d, and cows to £lO 7s 6d; best beef, 27s 6d per lOOlbs. Fat sheep were in good supply. Crossbreds, in the wool, brought from 12s 9d to 18a 3d; merinos from 10s 9d to 14s 6d ; prime mutton to 2Jd per lb. Grain—Wheat is quoted at 4s 9d for prime milling, but in the absence of transactions this must be considered nominal. Fowl feed, 2s 6d to 3s 9d; market quieter. Oats —The market is some.vhat weaker, as in consequence of advices of lower prices in Australia business is restricted. Quotations for for good, bright short feed oats, 3s Id to 3s 2d; milling, 3s 3d. Barley—No movement to report.
