Scarcely seven months and a half away from this port, the ship Marlborough return c I yesterday morning from London, bringing a full cargo and forty-four pasBengers. She is still commanded by Captain Hercules A-nderson, a gentleman who has gained for himself a worthy name in the passenger trade between the colony and the mothos country by his attentiveness and unvarying kindness. Upon the present visit he is accompanied by his wife, who, with the rest of-the passengers on board, enjoyed Ithe best of health throughout the passage-. The time of sailing from London to port was ninety days, considered rather a poor passage in point of time for the Marlborough, whose previous record ranges almost without an exception in the seventies and eighties. The time from the Start Point to the Siiiuos was eighty-five days, which was lon-? jr by several days than Captain Anderson had hoped the whole passage 'would have occupied when he bade good-bye to the shoxos of old England. He considers he owes his disappointments in this respect to the alow headway he made between passing the Canary Islands and rounding the Cape of Good Hope. He left London on August 3rd, and the Start on the sth, met with fair winds across the Bay of Biscay, and on August Isth got the N.E. trades, sighting the islands of Madeira and Palma soon after. On August 23rd the ship was in 16 north latitude, where the regular trades gave out, but the fine weather •which had prevailed from the Start continued, and on September 4th the equator was crossed in 21.33 west longitude. The S.E. trades met with were poor, and it was October Ist before the Cape of Good Hope was passed in 40.44 S. Good work was done with the westerlies, and on October 20th the ship was in the meridian of Capo Leu win, with the sea unusually smooth and the weather delightful. October 25th t> issed Tasmania, and made the Snare 3 last Sunday night, since which fine weather and light winds were experienced.
