ST. ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the St. Albans Borough Council was held last evening in the Borough Council Chambers, Papanni road. Present —Cr. Turner (in the chair), Crs. Dickinson, Smith, Bull, Eountreo, Mann, and Money. The Chairman apologised for the absence of Cr. Blakiston. The finance of the past fortnight was stated as follows : Receipts, JB-18 X7s 6d ; credit balance at Bank, £77 14s lOd. Accounts to bo passed for payment, £254 Os lid. On the motion of Cr. Bull, seconded by Cr. Smith, the report of the finance committee was received and adopted. The works comjuittee’s report stated that certain works in the borough had received attention, also that the water cart had been procured, and was in daily use watering the various thoroughfares iu the borough. The report was received and adopted. Letters were read —

Prom the Drainage Board, calling attention to the damage that results to drains iu suburban districts from straying cattle, asking that as far as possible such damage bo obviated in the St. Albans district. Ordered to bo forwarded to the police officer in charge of the district. From the Avon Hoad Board, referring to account sent for half maintenance of boundary road, objecting to certain items therein, and asking for further particulars. The clerk was ordered to furnish the desired information.

From the City Council, forwarding copy of a resolution passed at a recent mooting of the Council, requesting that the Borough Council should appoint two delegates to the proposed Railway League. The Chairman thought this matter hardly came within the province of the Council. As the order paper was exhausted perhaps it would be as well to adjourn till November 13th, and then immediately hold an informal meeting and consider the matter.

The Council adjourned accordingly,
