Calma was very fractious at the start, and there were three false starts, but when the flag fell finally the start was an excellent one. Guesswork was the first to show in front, with Navigator, Boolka, and Aide-de-Camp in close attendance, and almost in a cluster. Calma, Segenhoe, Frying Pan, and Transferred came next, followed by Standard Bearer, with King of the Vale last. As they came round the turn Guesswork took the lead, followed closely by Transferred, Boolka, Aido-de-Camp, Calma, Prying Pan, and Navigator, King of the Vale being close up. Transferred soou made an effort, and deprived Guesswork of the first place, and at the end of the first half mile was half a length ahead of Guesswork, which had a lead of some six lengths from Boolka, while two lengths beliind came Segenhoe, Navigator, King of the Vale, and Standard Bearer all close together. At the back of the course Guesswork and Transferred wore leading close together, while Calma and Pryingpan were in close' attendance, Segenhoe, Standard Bearer and King of the Vale being next. Close up, near the slaughter yards. Transferred again showed in front, with a lead of half a length from Guesswork, while two lengths behind came Fryingpan and Boolka, then Segenhoe, Calma and King of the Vale, Navigator being last. A mile from home Transferred and Guesswork were running neck and nock, with Fryingpan, Segenhoe, Standard Bearer and Navigator close up, and the rest of the field evidently outpaced. Transferred and Guesswork wore still leading as they entered the straight, with Pryingpan third and Segenhoe, Standard Bearer and Navigator coming up. Approaching the distance post Navigator began to close upon Pryingpan and soon secured third place, followed closely by Segenhoe. At the carriage paddock, it was evident that Guesswork and Transferred were done. Segenhoe had the lead for a moment and was quickly passed by Fryingpan and Navigator, the latter winning rather easily by a length and a half from Fryingpan, who was about a quarter of a length in front of Segenhoe. The others came in in the following order : —Guesswork, Transferred, Calma, King of the Vale. Time, 2min. 41Jsoc. Navigator’s victory was a very popular one, but is bad for the bookmakers, who are hit heavily. Received October 30th, 9.30 a.m. October 29.

Swoot William is in the pink of condition, and is in great favor with the stable. His price has increased to sto 1. The other horses are as follows :—Little Jack aud Mistaken 7 to I, Cunamulla 10 to 1, Sting 100 to 8 (taken), Sylvanus 100 to 5 (taken). Standard Hearer, Lord Lisgar, The Assyrian and Gudarz 100 to 3. The ring has been hit very hard in consequence of Navigator’s having been freely taken in the double event with every horse which has a chance for the Cup. There is little betting, both the ring and the public waiting for hedging money. The latest betting on the Cup is—Sweet William 4 to 1, Little Jack 7 to 1, Mistaken 8 to 1, Sting 10 to 1, Cunnamulla 12 to 1, others 20 to 1.
